23 Years of Trust: Stawowski McGill’s Longest Client

Some relationships are built over business coffee meetings. Others are built over 23 years of hard decisions, strategy sessions and shared fun. For Stan Stawowski, this client has stood the test of time and helped shape what long-term advisory can look like.

In reflecting on more than two decades of working with BRT Construction, Stan offered a few insights into what’s made the partnership work.

Recalling the very beginning when brothers, Tim and Brian Mack, first sought Stawowski McGill’s guidance for their business, Stan realized early on that they were dedicating time and resources to a project that wasn't yielding profitable returns. “By doing this contract, they didn’t have time to step away and find more profitable work. They were going down a road that wasn’t going anywhere unless they changed something,” Stan recounted. After convincing them to drop the contract, the shift was immediate. Stan emphasized, “All of a sudden, they started making substantial profits, but it required an open-minded approach and the courage to embrace change to get there.”

Part of what makes them such a long-term success is what makes them an ideal client.

“They’re a real fun client to work with because they're open to discussion, receptive to feedback, and unafraid to implement changes. And that goes back to our early planning sessions where we challenged them with questions like:

  • What do you want your business to look like in the future?

  • What goals do you want to reach personally?

  • What strategic focuses would have a major impact on the business?

  • How do we ensure we have fun when we come into work every day?”

Subsequently, the business expanded and attracted prospective buyers on multiple occasions. “I've been fortunate to be involved in those critical decisions and bring light for them to make difficult decisions. Now, they're happy that they didn't sell, because they've had some real big, stellar years,” shared Stan.

As the business is now being passed on to the next generation, Stan continues to provide guidance, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning and forward-thinking practices that have propelled their success. “Tim Mack has brought his son, Andrew, into the business. We continue to focus on expanding the business, now exploring potential acquisitions,” Stan elaborated. More than two decades later, the relationship is still built on strategic thinking, and a shared drive to keep building, and enjoying the next chapter.

A huge thanks to BRT Construction for 23 years and counting.
